Empowering parents to support their children with special needs is essential - for parents AND for the kiddo! Understanding the sensory system, how the brain takes in and uses information from the environment, and how that impacts learning, development, and relationships can be overwhelming. I focus on helping parents learn to help their children in the hours and hours and hours of time they spend at home and in their parents care - not just the 1 hour a week you would receive in an OT clinic. Through supportive coaching that leads to real life transformation in sleep routines, mealtimes, dressing, participation, and learning, parents learn the foundations that lead to change. Disordered sensory processing impacts all areas of functioning, and parents are the first line of action to mediate, regulate, and support their child. Figuring out how to do that at home, around the clock, is made easier with access to an OT with sensory processing expertise - and here I am!When a child has difficulty at school, whether it's related to sensory processing difficulties or other learning differences, parents again are left in the dark to figure out how to get their child what they need to thrive. Cut through the confusion and loneliness of the "us vs them" mentality of parents against schools, and get to the point of collaboration, communication, and an actual plan to move your child in the right direction. You don't need to know everything about special education, but you do need to know the right questions to ask, and what to do with the answers you receive.
