In this position, I learned many valuable lessons, an interesting new skill, and got to work with my hands, which is always fun for me. I enjoyed this position very much and I was invited to travel to California in order to learn how to construct a new handbag and train the newest group of artisan trainees. I met a lot of really amazing people and was challenged daily.

I did double duty as the Compliance Specialist and as a Sales Associate, so this role always took a back seat to the customers in the store or on the phone, but it was a very eye opening experience and really helped put a lot of things into perspective for me. I was tasked with ensuring every single firearm that was checked into and out of our inventory was accounted for, with correct and complete documentation on file and correctly entered and stored in the store A&D database. I was the point of contact for customer and coworker questions or concerns regarding the legality of firearm sales, transfers, and shipping & receiving protocols. I shared input regarding implementing new and revising current protocol or company policies and managed the storage and filing of 20 years' worth of ATF Form 4473, as required by law.

I took this as a second job, but after thinking about my time there, I would go back to work for them today if I was approached. As I have been reflecting back on my time at Retro/Earth, I have found that it seems to be the only job I've ever had that I cannot remember a single bad moment, bad day, tough customer, not even ending a work day with a headache!! I absolutely loved the autonomy we had, the laid back atmosphere, the inclusiveness and open and honest communications to the staff was so refreshing and much more genuine than the (sometimes overly) PC Starbucks speak that I was used to so much of the time. The trust that they showed me really stoked my loyalty to their brand and they were extremely supportive, they made it truly feel like I had another family at work. They also taught me some jewelry making skills and allowed me to spend my "slow" days being creative and designing pieces to sell in the shops. I got to design and make earrings, necklaces, and bracelets out of some of the most beautiful turquoise pieces and Swarovski cystals, most tagged and sold in the triple digit price range. It got me very interested in jewelry making and I began making jewelry for myself and family members outside of work, but have since handed them down to my stepdaughter and moved onto exploring several other creative endeavors, currently working with acrylic fluid pours.This job unlocked a creative sensibility inside me that I never knew existed and I will always have Warm Fuzzies for this place.
