John Castle teaches Entrepreneurship at Seattle University. He retired from teaching at the University of Washington Foster School of Business (2001- 2013) and the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (2006-2012). His practical classes inspired many former students to found innovative new companies in many industries. He founded and ran many companies during his fifty year business career, including several that went public or were acquired. He now advises companies on how to turn their ideas and technologies into profitable businesses and his innovative methods help businesses focus on the elements of the venture that are essential for success. He was co-founder and CEO of Cantametrix, a music software company, CEO of Hamilton-Thorn, a medical electronics and diagnostics company; Executive VP and co-founder of Seragen, a biotechnology company, and a partner in Washington Biotechnology Funding, a seed venture capital fund specializing in medical technologies. He has been a principal, director or advisor to early-stage companies including, Cadence Biomedical, RO Health, Stockbox Grocers, Energizing Solutions, Microgreen Polymers, Sharebuilder, Goodwell Technologies, Olympus Games, 3 Phase Energy, Savtech, Sunriver Specialties, and Biohesion, He is a member of the Keiretsu Forum which provides financing to early-stage companies. He has advised large companies including Danaher Corp, FMC Corp, Procter & Gamble, Penwest, Johnson Controls and Washington Dental Service. He is an expert witness about entrepreneurial ventures. He has been honored as an outstanding business professor and has spoken at numerous events for entrepreneurs. He has served on the boards of non-profits Encompass, MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest and the Northwest Entrepreneur Network. He is a graduate of MIT in Chemical Engineering, and the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
