I am the Student Association for Speech and Hearing Secretary at the University at Buffalo. While having this role, I organize and note take at our club events and meetings concerning information we discussed. During this time, I collaboratively met with fellow positions on the E-board to formulate club meeting events and be able to fundraise for causes within our major.

This semester, I was able to take on a Speech-Language Pathology internship at North Tonawanda High School. Starting this internship, I have learned how to implement speech activities and take on a leadership role in my field. I also learned how to monitor each student's progress or regression. I love having hands-on experience with high schoolers and participating in a cause that helped me as a child: Speech Therapy. By the end of the semester, I will have 112 clinical experience hours. I am excited to learn more and be able to help people's communication needs.

In my current research position, I work on conversational videos between a Typical and Augmented Speaker who utilizes an Alternative and Augmentative Communication Device. This lab has given me insight into the broadness of communication and how communication is necessary to our daily lives. Everyone should be able to communicate within their preferred modality. Our lab also comes together bi-weekly to have transcriber meetings to discuss how we can improve the transcriber manual.

On the job, I help teachers with classroom technology difficulties while providing quality customer service. I track classroom recordings to ensure the audio works correctly and the video is recording. In addition, I help train new employees to give them the tools to solve problems with our UB South Campus technology.

Tutoring taught me the importance of modifying the instruction of each child's needs. Tutoring a student who has ADHD helped me develop more patience and understanding for each student while also making organized lesson plans to help them succeed.

As Vice President of Programming, I created fun and involving fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Anorexia Nervosa and Associative Disorders, and Suicide Prevention. These fundraisers involved spreading awareness of these issues in our world while raising money for these charities. We also collaborated with local communities to help clean up the Buffalo area and give back to our community.

The summer I was a nanny taught me the crucial role of empathy and care in being a part of a helping profession. Although I had to do chores around the home, there was such value to my experiences. This role also taught me to maintain professional boundaries and form lines of respect with the kids I cared for daily. I truly loved making nurturing and positive relationships with the two children I nannied for while also having good relationships with their parents.

Throughout my sophomore year, I mentored first-year college students through sessions weekly to check in to see how they were doing academically and socially. The first year of college can be a rough transition, so I wanted to provide insight and experiences while providing a support system. I relayed students to different resources to help them succeed, like tutoring resources and the UB Career and Design Center. Peer mentors also coordinated to create successful workshops to bring students together and help them have a good UB experience.

While being a sleepaway camp counselor at YMCA Camp Chingachgook, I worked with age groups from 7-9 and 11-13 year-olds. Changing age groups was challenging, but it showed me the diverse needs of these groups while formulating positive relationships with my campers. As a counselor, I prioritized my camper's safety, experience at camp, and well-being so they could have the best time possible. On the job, I also led canoeing and sailing classes to instruct campers on these new activities. This was a rewarding experience I will always cherish while being a part of an inspiring community at camp.
