Cath Broderick is an independent consultant with extensive experience in patient and public engagement, communication, consultation, and facilitation. Following a 20 year career as a senior leader in the NHS, Cath has successfully taken on challenging strategic transformation roles in the health sector, bringing skills and experience in engaging with people, communities and NHS staff to manage change and improve care. Cath is now the independent lead for engagement in the Swansea Bay Maternity & Neonatal Review. She has also been providing independent support and advice around engagement and communication to Betsi Cadwaladr UHB as an Independent Advisor.She has focused her experience and skills in building co-production and exploring innovative methods so that the voices of communities and people who use services are heard and influence change. This has been illustrated through her experience as the Lay Member and engagement specialist for the Independent Maternity Services Oversight Panel, Cwm Taf Morgannwg. She was the author of 'Listening to women and families about maternity care in Cwm Taf' published in 2019 for the RCOG/RCM review of maternity services. Cath brought the same perspectives to the design and support for innovative engagement working with families in Morecambe Bay and North Cumbria to improve maternity services. Significantly, she was the lead for engagement in the highly evaluated consultation on the reconfiguration and development of health services for children and young people, maternity services and neonatal intensive care in Greater Manchester. She has many years experience within the NHS in the field of patient and public engagement and consultation in national projects with the Department of Health, CQC, and at regional level in Greater Manchester and the North West. She has a particular interest in Experience Based Co-design and specialises in work with NHS organisations to understand the needs of consultation for reconfiguration and to design and deliver effective engagement to plan and improve health care. Cath is a Lay Member of the NMC Midwifery Panel and was previously Chair of the RCOG Women's Network, Chair of the RCOG Equality & Diversity Committee and a member of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel. She was awarded a Fellowship by RCOG in June 2016. Cath has an MSc in Strategic Leadership (Learning and Development), has an interest in change management and also has a background in information, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies
