For two years in a row in the Fall quarter I led three discussion sections per week with a total of ~80 students for the undergraduate course Life Sciences 4: Genetics. I developed teaching materials to supplement lectures and created quizzes to assess students' weekly mastery of the material. I also held weekly office hours, proctored two midterms and one final exam, performed all grading for my students.

• Conducted genetic research on Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and other movement disorders and neurodegenerative diseases in Dr. Coro Paisan-Ruiz's Laboratory.• Employed linkage analyses, targeted resequencing, Sanger sequencing, and exome sequencing with the long-term goal of identifying novel loci and disease-causing mutations. Additionally performed post-bioinformatic exome analysis: SNP filtration, investigation of candidate genes on NCBI and PubMed, validation and segregation analyses, and scanning of candidate genes in cohorts of cases and controls.• Performed functional analyses of identified genes using a variety of functional neuroscience and biochemistry techniques: mouse brain extraction and staining, bacterial culture, site-directed mutagenesis, mini-preps and maxi-preps, transfection, cell culture, and protein purification and quantification, phosphatase assay, thin-layer chromatography, and malachite green assay. • Attended lecture series held by the departments of Neuroscience, Psychiatry, and Genetics, and a weekly meeting of the Psychiatric Genomics Club.• Performed general laboratory duties: writing protocols, ordering and keeping inventory of supplies, carrying on relations with sales representatives, and maintaining the general appearance and performance of the lab.

Worked under the supervision of Renana Ofan and PI David Amodio.• Organized and analyzed data using MS Excel and SPSS.

• Conducted study on the efficacy of the Peer Wellness Program, a mental health treatment service provided by trained peer specialists to formerly homeless individuals with diagnosed severe mental illness, in decreasing psychiatric symptomology and increasing recovery. Worked under the supervision of Ana Stefancic and PI Sam Tsemberis.• Performed participant interviews that included measures of general well-being, perceived control over treatment options, empowerment, social functioning, psychiatric symptoms, recovery, etc.• Collected data and analyzed it using SPSS, prepared an article and presented a poster at the NYU Undergraduate Research Conference.
