Catherine Dunne is an Irish Traditional/Classical trained fiddle player from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. She has been brought up through the rich musical heritage of County Fermanagh taught by her father, John, and Sean Nugent. She has successfully competed in Fleadh Cheoil na h-Éireann since she was 9 years old competing in Fiddle, Button Accordion, Duet, Trios, Ceili Band and Groupai Cheoil competitions. She teaches individual fiddle lessons and has taught Comhaltas groups to compete annually in the Fleadh. She has completed Grade 8 (ABRSM) on Violin, Grade 5 Piano (ABRSM) and obtained a Distinction mark in Grade 5 Theory of Music (ABRSM).She joined the first ever Ulster Youth Orchestra in 1994 and toured with them to Dublin, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the European Festival of Youth Orchestras in Rostock, Germany. She was a finalist in the first year of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 1998 and has been a visiting artist to the Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival. Catherine went on to study Music at Queen’s University, Belfast and obtained a BMus(Hons) Degree in 1998. She moved to Manchester in 1999 to complete a PGCE in Music with Specialist String Teaching from the Manchester Metropolitan University combined with the Royal Northern College of Music for her specialist strings teaching, Kodaly and Dalcroze eurhythmics training. She completed her PGCE in 2001 and worked with Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership. Since 2002, she has returned to her roots and now teaches for the Education Authority Music Service in primary and secondary schools in County Tyrone and Fermanagh. Catherine also conducts Junior and Intermediate String Orchestras and arranges Irish Traditional pieces and popular music for concerts. She has also been a violin tutor with Senior Youth Orchestra and has directed and arranged music for the Senior Youth Orchestra Irish Traditional Music Folk Group for tours and concerts. She has most recently obtained a First Class Honours Masters in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in the University of Limerick. She has returned to the EA Music Service as an Instrumental Tutor in September 2024.
