I am a Professor of Pediatrics and the Vice-chair for Research at the Department of Pediatrics, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and Dayton Children's Hospital. This involves mentoring faculty to advance academic productivity. I provide oversight, implementation, and facilitation of research for the Department. I meet with many different people to identify and promote opportunities for collaboration, not only within my own institution but also globally. I also undertake my own research and teaching program in pediatric clinical pharmacology.

I am a Associate Professor (Tenured) and Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Utah, Co-Director of the Pediatric Mentored Research Program, Director of the Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship Program, and Director of Pharmacometrics in the Clinical Trials Office. I am board certified by the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology and have extensive training and experience as a pharmacometrician.

The Utah Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship Program (UCPFP) was founded in 2010 within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology (DCP), Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, University of Utah. In the five years since our fellowship program was established, we have shown a consistent track record of accepting quality applicants, who are competitive and successful when they move on to positions in academics, industry, and regulatory as a result of the training we provide. This training focuses on preparing scientists to assume leadership roles as innovative, high impact investigators in the field of clinical pharmacology. Their training has enabled them to conduct investigations that advance our understanding of medical therapies, notably within special populations pharmacology (e.g. neonatal, pediatrics, pregnant women).Our fellowship program broadly provides development in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for fellows to be successful and independent clinical pharmacology investigators. Training is based on core requirements as well as an accepted fellow’s experience and professional goals. Practically, this translates into tailored training regimens for each fellow that address areas of weakness while reinforcing a trainees areas of aptitude and prior experience. The University of Utah and in particular, the UCPFP has a strong history of recruiting and mentoring trainees from diverse backgrounds. We typically have fellows who have advanced terminal degrees (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP, DDM, and/or DVSc) from an accredited university.

Reviewer of IND/IDE applications through the Clinical Trials Office/TIC (NCATS U24 grant); Handled operations for a large Clinical Trial Office with 67 research staff. This included managing the day-to-day running of the CTO and management of all aspects of the office. Developed the pharmacometrics and clinical pharmacology programs from the ground up of the CTO.

As an academic Clinical Pharmacologist I am part of a research team within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and also has a role in the Clinical Trials Office within the Department of Pediatrics. My research and expertise is in pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and pharmacogenomic modeling as well as clinical trial simulation. My research involves understanding the pharmacology of drugs in neonatal and pediatric populations which has allowed me to become an expert in the techniques of pharmacometric modeling and scaling which are crucial for pediatric clinical trials. I have specific interests and expertise with numerous drug classes including antibiotics, immunosuppressants, antiepileptics, anesthetic agents and opioids.
