    Senior Project Engineer
Sanborn, Head & Associates, Inc. May 2018 - Jun 2020
    Boston
I returned to Sanborn Head as a Senior Project Engineer in May 2018 after graduating with my Master of Engineering from MIT. I became more involved in project management and oversaw several projects in the Boston area, including due diligence subsurface investigations, numerous Phase I ESAs, and a vapor intrusion assessment. Sanborn Head recognized my desire to learn more about project management and sponsored me as a participant in the ACEC Genesis Program in 2019 and our own internal project management course. Much of my focus was (and remains) dedicated to a redevelopment project in Union Square, Somerville, MA; I designed a PCB sampling grid to evaluate the presence of TSCA-regulated PCBs, was the primary author for two TSCA Risk-Based Work Plans, and was the first reviewer for various MCP regulatory documents, in addition to managing our budget to meet our Client's needs. This project continues and presents new challenges that our team resolves (and learns from) every day.

As an project environmental engineer, I performed ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, environmental site investigations, and geotechnical site investigations. Additionally, I provided field oversight of environmental and geotechnical subsurface exploration programs and performed a variety of environmental sampling techniques for groundwater, soil, soil vapor, and indoor air. I have been the primary author for multiple regulatory documents required under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, including Release Abatement Measure Reports and various Status Reports.

  • Syracuse University
    Literacy Corps Tutor
    Syracuse University Sep 2013 - May 2014
    Syracuse, New York Area
As a Literacy Corps Tutor, I provided literacy support to the students of the Syracuse City School District. The Literacy Corps program was founded in response to President Bill Clinton's America Reads initiative, and gives Syracuse University students an opportunity to be involved with the younger students of the Syracuse community. I worked with students in grades 1 to 3 to improve their literacy skills, particularly their reading and comprehension abilities, in individual or group settings. To be an effective tutor, I built both meaningful and constructive relationships with the students, and open and reliable relationships with their teachers. These relationships encouraged students to have a positive attitude towards reading and helped me develop the best learning strategy for each student.
  • Syracuse University
Statics And Mechanics Of Solids Teaching Assistant
    Syracuse University Jan 2013 - May 2014
    Syracuse, New York Area
I have had the wonderful opportunity to be a teaching assistant for two mid-level engineering courses at Syracuse University, Statics (ECS 221) and Mechanics of Solids (ECS 325). These courses can be two of the most difficult for second year engineering students, and a complete understanding is necessary for students to continue in the civil or environmental engineering program. Among other duties, I held weekly office hours to work individually with students and review difficult concepts. I treated my office hours as walk-in tutoring, where I could translate the technical language used in class to language more common for the student. Not only did this reinforce material to the students, but it reinforced it for me, solidifying my basic engineering knowledge.
  • Syracuse University
    Learning Community Resident Advisor
    Syracuse University Aug 2011 - May 2013
    Syracuse, New York Area
The position of Learning Community Resident Advisor (LCRA) for the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science is a 24 hour position; one that is extremely challenging, yet rewarding. As an engineering LCRA, I developed programs geared toward first year engineering students that facilitate dialogue, active learning, and community building. In general, I was a mentor for my residents, giving them support, advice, and someone who was always there for them. My duties included mediating conflicts between roommates, maintaining positive relationships with senior staff, and making sure the building was a safe place for residents. I worked closely with the other resident advisors on my staff, forming close working relationships that benefit not only the staff, but most importantly, the residents.
  • Syracuse University
    Eco-Rep
    Syracuse University Aug 2011 - May 2012
    Syracuse, New York Area
In addition to being a LCRA my sophomore year, I worked with another LCRA as an “Eco-Rep” for Shaw Hall. Through the Sustainability Division at Syracuse University, we worked to promote sustainability and “living green” to the students living in Shaw Residence Hall. This was a pilot program, so my partner and I developed original educational programs and tabling events to teach students what they can do to be aware of the environment while living in Shaw Hall. Successful events include a water taste test (to prove that chilled tap water tastes the same, if not better, than chilled bottled water), recyclable fashion show (to show the amount of paper and recyclable items are thrown out in Shaw Hall), and a waste “audit” (to display the amount of food that is thrown out during a typical dinner service). I had the additional duty of marketing and advertising for these events through email blasts, small fliers, and a large poster.
  • Raymond International Llc
    Infrastructure Internship Program Participant
Raymond International Llc Jan 2013 - Dec 2013
    United Arab Emirates
Syracuse University’s L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science selects six civil and environmental engineering students to participate in an internship program sponsored by Raymond International Pipeline Services Group. As one of these students, I traveled to the arid regions of United Arab Emirates and Kuwait to experience first-hand the transportation of potable water, including water desalination, water distribution, pipe manufacturing, pipe coating, and water usage. In preparation, the interns participated in a semester long seminar to learn about the history, culture, lifestyle, and religion of the Middle Eastern region. During the internship, we studied not only the current challenges of desalination and how the high consumption of water will impact future water supply solutions; we were able to experience a culture and lifestyle that was completely different, yet similar, to ours. The interns completed a comprehensive report on our experience abroad, the methods of water desalination, and the future of supplying freshwater in the Middle East.
  • Massachusetts School Building Authority
    Capital Planning Co-Op
Massachusetts School Building Authority Jun 2013 - Aug 2013
    Greater Boston Area
During the summer of 2013, I interned at the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) as a Capital Planning Co-Op. The MSBs reimburses school districts for school construction projects, improving the learning environment in public schools. I worked directly with Project Managers at the MSBA who oversee the district’s detailed design process and construction period. My basic duties included tracking and reviewing owner’s project manager reports, site visit summaries, and Division of Capital Assessment Management evaluations. As construction change orders were reported, I determined if the district’s changes were eligible for reimbursement by the MSBA. Most importantly, I developed department goals for the upcoming fiscal year by analyzing project status at each quarter and applying these trends to current and upcoming projects. This Co-Op was my first experience working on actual construction projects, and I learned the importance of a good construction plan, teamwork, and communication, lessons I can take with me as I begin my engineering career.
