Working primarily with Javascript (React.js) and CSS, and some PHP and SQL, I work on features and solve problems in both internal and external-facing parts of the websites for Wayfair, Joss & Main, Birch Lane, AllModern, and Perigold.

I work with a graphic designer to create websites for individuals and small businesses. Our focus is on setting up pre-customized websites that these users can then manage themselves with minimal technical knowledge. Using a base CMS such as Wordpress or Squarespace, we will create a custom theme, and integrate features to the user's specifications. One such feature I have built is a custom javascript configurator for a bicycle bag maker's Opencart shop.

I was a part-time QA engineer working on GenePattern, a software product that allows computational biologists analyze their data and compare results through the use of interconnected modules and workflows. I tested both the server platform and the modules themselves, proofread documentation, responded to help requests from our user base, and participated in team discussions about priorities and potential improvements to the software. Shortly before I left, I started taking on small development tasks, mainly working with legacy code in Perl.

I took an existing static website created with Microsoft Word, and modernized it by implementing e-commerce, interactive forms, and improved usability. My approach to this web project was to imagine a function, then teach myself how to make it happen. As a result, I taught myself how to use CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, and a little Perl and ASP. Most recently, I installed Drupal with the Ubercart e-commerce module. This MySQL-backed CMS allows the non-technical members of AEM to create and update content, while at the same time adding new features and functionality.
