One of my favorite parts of my business class in high school was watching “The Profit” and trying to predict what Marcus would change in businesses to help them be successful. I joined the Future Business Leaders of America national organization and attended conferences and competitions around Arizona. I took notes and continued to think about what it takes to be successful in business. It was clear to me that I would love to have a career helping others in business. I thought it would be really cool to be the one who helped a company improve profits, complete projects more efficiently, and grow more successful.As a Junior studying Business Entrepreneurship in W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, I have grown more interested in Data Analysis and applying the practice to improving sales and operations of business. I am very detail oriented and enjoy analyzing statistics as well as solving problems in creative ways. After taking Computer Information Systems last year, I developed an interest in learning software languages like SQL and programs like excel and I’m currently working on building proficiency in such skills. I don’t fit the stereotype of the typical business student, but growing up on a dude ranch, I have been a part of my father’s business and seen many aspects of business from an owner’s perspective. I worked at the ranch full time during the summers and developed skills in hospitality and communication. I always paid attention to the strategic management of the business (it had a significant impact on my life) and witnessed ups and downs that are inevitable in business. This exposure has made me passionate about helping small businesses grow, and given my skillset, the best way for me to do that is through Business Analytics. I intend to apply what I learned at the ranch as well as the skills I have learned in accounting, economics, business statistics and entrepreneurship classes through W.P. Carey to starting a career in Analytics. Eventually I would like to have my own consulting business so getting experience for myself would help me achieve that in the future. In my free time I love practicing guitar and learning about psychology. Or when it’s not 110 degrees, exploring the Phoenix area, hiking, stargazing, and photographing the beautiful landscapes of Arizona.
