About Christopher Jones
I’m a 29-year veteran of the media industry with a passion for creating and delivering content that makes a difference. And I don’t mean that as a cliché. Depending on the project, that could mean a difference to a company’s bottom line or a difference in the quality of life for a reader, viewer, or listener. I receive messages every day from listeners of my shows who tell me how an episode helped them get through a tough situation, inspired them, or simply made their day brighter. I love hearing that. It makes what I do worthwhile.I began my career in a world where print, radio, and television ruled—and that provided me with a strong understanding of how to create content. Today we live in a world where the internet, ebooks, apps, podcasts, and online video rule. This gives us incredible opportunities to take traditional content and elevate it in a way that gets greater results than ever before. Applying my two decades of experience in content creation and publishing to new media platforms is what I love doing every day … prolifically. My current and recent endeavors and career highlights include:• Publisher and editor-in-chief of The ACCJ Journal, the magazine of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan• Founder, publisher, and executive producer of the Trek.fm podcast network (TFM)• Host of The Ready Room, The Orb, Notes from the Edge, and Notes on the Line podcasts• Columnist for StarTrek.com, the official website of the Star Trek franchise run by CBS• Voiceover and narration for the National Space Society and others• Industry volunteer, past member of AMA and AAF boards of directors, judge in international creative, marketing, and podcast competitions• More than 120 awards for writing, design, and marketing, including a National ADDY Award and publication in Print Magazine and HOW.
Listed skills include Social Media Marketing, Advertising, Web Design, Copywriting, and 28 others.

Publisher + Editor-In-Chief, The Accj Journal
CurrentThe ACCJ Journal is the magazine of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and is now in its 59th year of publication. I oversee and work on all aspects of production, including content development, writing, and editing, as well as design and layout. As an experienced narrator and podcaster, I also record audio versions of the stories that appear in the magazine. I have served as editor-in-chief since April 2016 and took on the role of publisher in January 2021.I work with chamber members, the ACCJ communications team, and a group of freelance journalists to deliver monthly content that serves as the voice of global business in Japan and supports the advocacy, networking, and mentoring efforts of the country’s premier foreign business organization. The ACCJ brings together over 3,000 professionals from 600-plus globally minded companies representing more than 40 countries.
Publisher + Executive Producer
CurrentTrek.fm is an audio network that features in-depth discussion and analysis of the Star Trek franchise. In April 2010, I founded this network to bring fans around the world a behind-the-scenes look at Star Trek through discussions and interviews with the franchise’s actors, writers, and creative production staff. We also collaborate with Rod Roddenberry, the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Under my guidance, Trek.fm has become a Featured Content Provider for Apple’s iTunes and is sustained through the support of listeners through Patreon. To date Trek.fm has published more than 4,000 episodes.
Principal + Creative Director
CurrentFollowing years of working in publishing and communications, I founded this small creative studio to combine my experience in print and web design, magazines, sound design, video production, and writing. Over the years, Stellar Debris has created comprehensive and engaging approaches to marketing and communications for many clients in the United States and Japan, winning more than 100 industry awards for design and marketing along the way.
Editor-In-Chief
At Custom Media, an award-winning bilingual content creation and communications agency, I served as editor-in-chief of The ACCJ Journal, the monthly magazine of The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and senior editor of ACUMEN, the magazine of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan. In addition to managing these publications, I also wrote and proofed advertising/marketing copy for various print and digital media projects, as well as worked on branding, social media campaigns, and other creative communications projects.
Editor-In-Chief
Metropolis is one of Japan’s largest and longest-running English-language magazines, published for the foreign community since 1994. As Editor-In-Chief, I oversaw planning and production of each issue, coordinated the editorial, design, and sales teams, wrote articles, planned online content and social media strategies, as well as hosted and produced the companion podcast Metropolis On Air. In addition, I undertook strategic media planning for Metropolis’s parent company, Japan Partnership.
Director Of Marketing
I directed the design, marketing, and media buying for one of the oldest software companies in the IBM midrange server industry, whose clientele includes at least one division of every Fortune 100 company. As Director of Marketing for Bytware, I planned and executed global marketing strategies targeting corporate IT departments whose operations are built upon the IBM AS/400, iSeries, System i, and IBM i platforms. I also wrote technical and educational articles, case studies, and white papers covering automated operations, systems management, security, and antivirus needs as they relate to corporate IT. Bytware is now part of the HelpSystems family of companies.
Vice President Of Marketing
I served one year on the Board of Directors of the Reno-Tahoe chapter of the American Marketing Association, where I assisted in the planning and execution of various events for the Northern Nevada marketing community. I left the Board of Directors when I relocated back to Tokyo.
Marketing Director
I served two years on the Board of Directors of the Reno-Tahoe chapter of the American Advertising Federation, where I assisted in the planning and execution of various events for the design community, including the ADDY Awards and monthly professional networking luncheons. I left the Board of Directors when I relocated back to Tokyo.
Communications Manager
I worked both as a designer and the Communications Manager for Tokyo American Club, a large private club serving the expatriate community. As head of Communications, I managed a five-person in-house design team that supported five other departments and three Member event committees/organizations by providing design and marketing services. One of my key projects was a redesign of the Club’s full-color monthly magazine. I organized and streamlined the production process and brought full production in-house, saving the Club money and allowing full control over the look, feel, and quality.
Art Director And Managing Editor
At Business World, a publishing company specializing in English-language magazines, I edited and designed two monthly publications: Tokyo Day & Night and The Nippon View for distribution in the Tokyo area. These publications covered a wide variety of subjects including entertainment, community events, and fashion. In addition to the monthlies, I also edited and designed the semi-annual restaurant guide Wining and Dining in Tokyo.
Prepress
Before moving into design and editing, I began my career in magazines on the production side in the pre-digital days (as we know them now). At Randall, a large publisher of the nationally distributed magazines Overdrive and Equipment World, I was a member of a five-person in-house prepress department handling scanning, film output/stripping, and proof preparation for two 150-page monthly magazines and annual catalogs for Caterpillar and other major manufacturers.
Bass Trombonist
Prior to my design and communications career, I was the tenured bass trombonist in the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, the only professional orchestra in the state of Alabama at the time. I studied music at the University of Alabama, Florida State University, and Moscow State Conservatory. I had the privilege of performing with some of the world’s great musicians including Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma.
