About Cameryn Blackmore, Ph.D.
Growing up in Baton Rouge, LA the daughter of a generous homemaker and devoted law enforcement officer, I was raised to always lend a helping hand whenever possible. Watching my parents help others and build connections with people from different backgrounds has made my ability to connect with others professionally and solve their problems a seamless effort for me. Making the transition from academia to the policy space upon the completion of my Ph.D. seemed like it would be a daunting journey at first. However, my upbringing best helped me to transition into being a legislative aide on the Hill. My ability to build bridges coupled with my expertise, skills, and over 10 plus years of experience helped me to manage my policy issue areas to problem solve within the district and on the Hill. I have been fortunate to also grow my scholarly pursuits while producing policy research publications for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. This opportunity has allowed me to use the training I received while pursuing my doctorate, as well as my passion for creating equitable policies to educate the public. When I am not passionately working to influence political decisions, I am adjusting to being a new fur mom to King Louie and enjoying the Washington D.C sights! Maybe you will catch me at a museum or cute coffeehouse reading a good book.
