Temporary Contract Attorney/Contract Specialist
Life Technologies (a brand of Thermo Fisher Scientific), Carlsbad, CA May, 2015 to October, 2015Contract Attorney Principal Responsibilities: This position is primarily focused on supporting the commercial function. Negotiates reviews, completes and submits solicitations, commercial contracts and terms and conditions review and negotiation, commercial contracts management and preparation of other commercial and legal supporting documentation as necessary. Skills: • Reviews and prepares responses to simple and highly complex/ technical solicitations and if necessary, negotiates final terms with the customer. • This includes coordinating and collaborating with teams and functions impacted by the terms in the solicitations. • Drafts, negotiates and reviews commercial contracts and terms and conditions. • Liaises with various inter-company departments to assess contractual risks and approvals. These departments may include Sales, Service, Marketing, Sales Operations, Finance, and Quality. • Reviews terms to ensure they comply with company's policies and to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks. • Provides on-going support to Sales through contract interpretation and recommends course of action based on such interpretations. • Communicates effectively with customers, internal stakeholders and in-house Legal Department to resolve contractual problems, challenges and issues. • Reviews and monitors commercial contracts compliance and commercial terms in order to support the fast-paced business environment. • Assists in entering new commercial contracts into internal databases and maintains up to date entries. • Supports departmental process improvements related to handling solicitations and commercial contracts. • Performs additional tasks and responsibilities as may be dictated by business needs.
