About Chris Field
A 25-year career as an engineer, inventor, academic and entrepreneur has given me the skills and hard-won experience to lead innovation efforts where the goal is to validate real-world problems and iterate commercially viable solutions.As an acoustic designer, I’ve helped to define best practice in acoustical engineering at three of the world’s best global consultancies where I collaborated with experts in a wide variety of disciplines.Outside consulting, I am the inventor of an award-winning product, and I maintain a relationship with academia — which gives me a chance to pay back to the field as well as get exposure to and contribute to the latest research.I have had the opportunity to work from offices on three continents, collaborating with multinational teams on a range of world-class projects. Highlights over the last decade or so include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters in Seattle, the Beijing National Aquatics Center (better known as the Water Cube) and the Barangaroo International Commercial Towers in Sydney.My experience as an acoustic designer in global consultancies has taught me how to navigate the delicate balance between work practices, client priorities and technical design standards.To my other experience in fostering innovation and product development, I bring my experience as an entrepreneur who has taken products through the whole lifecycle — from validating the problem and conceiving the solution through commercial and financial modelling, pricing and royalty strategies to developing delivery channels.I have recently taken on the role as Technical Director in the Regional Acoustics Team at WSP where I will be responsible for directing the acoustic design delivery of projects across Australasia.
