3rd-line UNIX engineer.

Short-term contract to build London data centre in support of global expansion. Responsibilities included building various Sun servers for clustered databases and applications. Responsibilities included all systems administration duties.

Responsibilities included the management and operation of a very large-scale in-house Oracle database application environment. Also responsible for OS & hardware level system design and re-architecture. Physical environment consisted primarily of a wide range of Sun servers, including several F15K servers each split into multiple domains.Responsible for providing technology solutions to the business partner, and to aid in the smooth progression of the overall project under tight timelines.

Senior UNIX Systems Consultant & technical team lead working with groups of other Senior UNIX engineers.Responsible for liaising with 3rd party vendors and seeing problem resolution issues through to completion.Technical lead for both the production & development communities providing operational and development support for a large project oriented applications development department & mission critical 7x24 production support department. Play supporting role in Architecture group as IT architect in addition to open systems product support group with responsibility to stabilize mid-tier Enterprise environment. UNIX systems/network administration, webmaster & application support responsibilities concentrating on Sun Solaris platform. Support both the development and production environments. Duties include the management of a wide range of UNIX servers in the development environment and a much wider range of Enterprise systems in the production environment.

Started work as MVS mainframe operator in order to gain exposure to mainframe world (being the most significant area of IT still lacking from my résumé). Continued with UNIX systems management after 18 months. Installed, configured and maintained Stratus, Sequent, AIX, Apollo, SCO & Sun UNIX platforms in heterogeneous environment.General systems management involved TCP/IP, NFS, SMTP, user management, disk space management, system resource management (DISK, MEM, IO, CPU), problem management, software upgrades, system bug fixes and upgrades, scripting, backups and problem solving. Configuration complexity escalated with rapid customer growth.

TV-Gazet was a local TV news/advertising channel. Was responsible for the head-office LAN consisting of about 40 Macintosh PC's of various denominations. Was also responsible for 18 head-end systems which were sited round the province and connected to head-office via leased lines. Each head-end consisted of Mac servers, running proprietary software, connected to a PAL encoder which fed the cable. Maintaining the head-end systems invariably involved traveling around the province chasing after hardware/software breakdowns. Head office LAN PC's were connected via LocalTalk using peer-to-peer network software.

Was responsible for all computer operations. Started working for RIKS as the first technical employee with a configuration of 2 IBM PS/2 PC's. After 3 1/2 years, configuration had grown to include 40 Macintosh's (ranging across the board from SE's to IIfx's running MacOS 5.x at first to 7.1 at time of departure), 6 Apollo workstations (running Domain/IX and Aegis) and 8 Sun workstations (Sun3's, Sun4, and Sparcstations running SunOS 4.1). I provided all IT support for the company for the time that I was there.

Computer room operations and electronic communications were primary tasks at Schlumberge in London. Computer room consisted of a VAX 8600 and a range of printer/plotter equipment as well as tape units, PDPII's, a MicroVAX and terminal servers. Was responsible for log transmissions from various North sea oil platforms to London and was on permanent stand-by.
