As Quality Manager I maintain the quality of our products from department to department and built a quality reporting system that provided real-time information on quality metrics throughout the facility. During a recent ramp-up which increased our headcount by 300% I was not only responsible for ensuring that we maintained and exceeded customer expectations for our product, but also trained several brand-new setup technicians across three shifts. I relied heavily on my personal setup experience and machine knowledge as well as lean principles to train the technicians while also building a robust structure of progression, instructions, and preventative maintenance. The previously mentioned quality reporting system consisted of the tablets on the shop floor for technicians and quality auditors to record their checks throughout their shift. These check sheets used excel macros and data validation to eliminate typos and ensure proper file saves. I then built a database in Excel that used Power Query to bring in all the data from those checks in seconds rather than manually gathering the data. The final product was a dynamic dashboard that could be updated throughout the day and presented the KPI and diagnostic information needed in a visually clean and professional format.

I successfully managed the milling of hardwood flooring in a results oriented environment with multiple departments and as many as 60 employees. Without the assistance of a Quality Manager or Project Manager I assumed the responsibilities for both roles and ensured that all product leaving my scope of responsibility exceeded quality expectations as well as actively planned and executed process improvements and large scale equipment/production line implementation. Daily accountability and KPI reporting was standard practice for safety, quality, delivery, and cost with root cause analysis and corrective action being the outcomes of any missed KPI's. This required a culture of Kaizen improvement and lean thinking to be built with the team from entry level to front line leadership. Among other projects, I implemented the conversion of a production line from solid wood flooring to engineered wood flooring which provided increased production by 400%. I also built a new system of production reporting using Excel which all but eliminated hand reporting and WIP identification. This evolved over time and resulted in a reduced amount of time front line leadership spent in the office as well as increased diagnostic information for our KPI's thus accelerating our reaction time and corrective action implementation.

It was during my time as a Production Supervisor that I developed the skills needed to succeed in my most recent roles. I spent the vast majority of my day on the shop floor interacting with employees, training new hires, and learning to fill all the roles within my scope including machine setup. My largest and final project as Supervisor was the implementation of a new production line that manufactured engineered wood flooring. I worked closely with the Plant Manager, maintenance team, and outside vendors to master each machine needed in the process and then build a structure to ensure best practices were standard practices for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The TPM program part of this project grew into standard practice for my other departments as my team and I developed a TPM program anchored heavily in visual aid and standard work. This showed decreased downtime in all departments, but the engineered wood department saw production double as a direct result.
