Cecilia is dedicated to scientific research, environmental protection and international equal partnership collaboration for sustainable development. She began her career at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden and took a master's degree in chemical engineering with a focus on biotechnology. She did her M. Sc. thesis in Leon, Nicaragua where she extracted the active component from a local medicinal plant. Thereafter she was employed as researcher and consultant at the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL) in Stockholm, and worked with organic environmental pollutants in water and waste management. The work involved the coordination of scientific research with the requirements from the society. She took a Ph.D. exam with focus on organic pollutants and waste management at KTH in parallel with her employment at IVL. After thirteen years at IVL, she was employed at the International Foundation for Science (IFS) whose mandate is to support research management in countries with weak scientific infrastructure. Cecilia created and was then responsible for the Water Resources Scientific Programme and also managed a project increasing the access advanced scientific research equipment in Nigeria and at Madagascar. She remained at KTH and in parallel with her work at IFS she took an Associate Professor degree at the Department of Land and Water Resources with focus on water management in lower income countries. After twelve years with IFS she was employed as Deputy Programme Director in Chemical Sciences at the International Science Program (ISP) at Uppsala University, Sweden, where she continues her work with research and laboratory management in countries with weak scientific infrastructure. Cecilia also founded a volunteer organisation, Action10, in 2009 and a private enterprise for social good, Human Rights & Science (HR&S), in 2015. Action10 operates, since 2015, under the umbrella of HR&S. HR&S has launched Country Branches in eight Sub-Sahara African countries; Burkina Faso, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Togo, Uganda and Zambia. Cecilia has, through her work with Action10 and HR&S, developed and implemented a management strategy (ROPE) that empowers equal international partnership for development. HR&S offers a set of support packages empowering scientific institutions (REACH), advanced laboratories (FAST), entrepreneurs for social good (SCALE), under-served communities (SERV) and partnerships for development (22RISE).
