Dr. Wilson’s background is in aerospace structural design, analysis, and testing with a focus on composite materials. Her areas of expertise include mechanics of materials, failure analysis and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE/NDI) techniques of a variety of materials including metals, plastics and reinforced plastics. She specializes in composite failure mechanics, and composite manufacturing processes. As a consultant Dr. Wilson routinely performs engineering root cause analysis on failure of wind turbine components, sporting products, consumer electronics and oil and gas operations. While at Stanford University, Dr. Wilson was a researcher at the Structures and Composites Laboratory where she worked on developing a Structural Health Monitoring system for composite structures based on piezoelectric sensors. She designed and performed numerous static and fatigue tests on composite samples instrumented with different types of sensors. Using different signal processing and machine learning techniques combined with semi-analytical damage models, she developed new algorithms to identify damage type and extent. She was also a teaching assistant for courses in mechanics of composites and techniques of failure analysis, and she currently teaches her own course on advanced aerospace structures and materials at San Jose State University.
