Business Computer Information Systems major and Certified in Technical Communications, with an interest in project management for customer service and software businesses. During high school, I took the STEM route which included classes on the path of Project Lead The Way. This program is designed to help aspiring engineers choose their pathway. While taking these various classes, I discovered that programming was one of my top interests. My very first internship at NCR gave me the experience that I needed in order to continue with the engineering path I started in high school. From this point, I dedicated myself to learning C# and went into college majoring in Computer Science at the University of North Texas. At the University of North Texas, the classes I took that most corresponded to my Computer Science major were the introduction of Computer Science and the Technical Communications classes. The computer science classes opened my eyes to hardcore programming. There were multiple assignments that could be related back to real-world problems and provided an inside look to what may come up in a career in this field. The technical communications classes helped highlight my strengths in writing and editing technical documents. However, as I went through these classes, I realized that naturally, I had more interest in the leadership roles and planning sides of our class projects. I spent more time leading and working with teams to finish a project than producing the code necessary for the projects. This unexpected change in interest coerced me into changing my major to something more along those lines, Business Computer Information Systems. As I begin my new major, I have found the classes required are easier to understand and more interesting to attend. I believe that BCIS is definitely the major and career path for my personality and mindset. Helping people work towards their goals and delegating tasks to finish projects come naturally to me and the projects that I have lead can speak to the level of success I can achieve as a leader. When I’m not studying or in class, I like to spend time with my family, playing with my two cats, watching Netflix, and hanging out with my friends. My brother and I have formed a close bond since I left for college at UNT; now we talk on the phone almost every day. I want to be a role model for him and send a message that says “Anything is possible.” My brother is my inspiration and I want to be the person I’ve dreamed to be, for me and for him.
