With over 25 years’ experience as a lawyer, as well as running a private international investment company and acting as a NED to an AIM listed Technology company, I now hold a role as General Counsel to BP Installations Ltd, a specialist construction company in the Aviation sector. Within that role I advise the company on governance and business matters, and provide coaching for management success. In addition to legal and business expertise, as a behavioural change coach, I help leaders and companies to achieve their personal and professional goals by working with the strengths of the individuals involved. Coaching and mentoring practices can significantly impact the success of any company. A major element of change involves a focus on mental and physical wellbeing as a foundation for success. Ambitious high achievers have a tendency to ignore health matters in a drive for short-term productivity, causing long term damage through stress, poor nutrition and lack of sleep. Science has shown us all that the consequences of this can be devastating and opens the door for many metabolic diseases to take hold. Illness and fatigue in the workplace is rising, with direct links to lifestyle choices.Part of the catalyst for my decision to offer additional coaching services was my own health journey, which culminated in a double-organ transplant further to kidney failure. I am acutely aware of the limitations which health conditions place on anyone trying to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. Leaders and corporations must recognise that optimal health is the foundation of success, productivity and growth. I continue to stay at the forefront of health education with further studies in stress, nutrition, sleep and behaviour change to assist individuals and corporations to create change in a healthy way for all involved. In addition, I have a role at the Guys and St Thomas' Hospital Charity, where I am helping to assess funding applications for patient care projects.I am proud to be an advocate for organ donation and I would encourage everyone to have those difficult but worthwhile discussions with their family about what they would want to happen to their organs if something terrible were to happen. It isn't the cheeriest of subjects, but it is definitely life-saving.
