Math Modeler
Teaching Assistant
CS/CS&B/BME CM286 : Modeling and Simulation of Biomedical Systems
Wet Lab Assistant
Through the Biophysical Society, I had the opportunity to intern at the Weiss Lab at UCLA. My project was to evaluate the efficacy the different ways to attach a fluorescent probe to the end of synthesized DNA. There I learned many basic wet lab skills:-- Preparation of bench solutions, buffers and bacterial growth media-- Gel electrophoresis, chromatography, DNA synthesis-- DNA synthesis and concentration analysis by UV spectroscopyMy most useful contribution to the lab was to organize the DNA freezer and implement a system to keep track of all the samples in the freezer.
Research Intern
I developed a database to track survey responses from subjects in a cortisol response study. This included tools for data analysis and reporting, in addition to a front end interface for participants to directly key in their responses. This solution eliminated a time intensive data entry step, reduced mistakes, and improved patient confidentiality. My other responsibilities included managing references (using Procite), performing literature searches, and summarizing articles.
