Advisor (Disaster Risk Reduction) > Drr Global Agenda Specialist
Provides technical support for the execution of JICA’s corporate strategy on disaster risk reduction, including advocacy for pre-disaster risk reduction investment at international fora; conceptualization of a DRR Human Resources network; and promotion of space technology in disaster risk reduction.
Resilience Program Specialist
Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management UnitAs program specialist, I provided technical assistance and quality assurance to the strategic and policy-level initiatives carried out under disaster and climate risk management projects; and I promoted UNDP's leading role in inter-agency programming under UNDAF (UN Development Assistance Framework) 2018-2022 by leading technical discussion among all the UN agencies active in Resilience Outcome of UNDAF. I took a major role in the formation of the new project team of 19 staff, including designing job descriptions and assessment of candidates. The most recent contribution include leading the team to develop three policy advocacy papers on the issues such as risk insurance mechanism; housing reconstruction revolving fund; and localization of disaster and climate risk management. One of the innovative solution designs that I led with great excitement was data analytics of more than 1 million houses damaged in the earthquake, to come up with a prototype of model to identify vulnerable buildings elsewhere in conjunction with soil, contour, river proximity data. This was for addressing the existing vulnerable buildings that are facing risks of future earthquakes. I was part of the leading team to design and execute this solution, and I authored a technical paper of this initiative which was undertaken jointly between UNDP Nepal and Institute of Engineering of the Tribhuvan University.
Program Analyst
Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Unit / 2015 Gorkha earthquake Recovery UnitI was responsible for leading multi-stakeholder policy coordination for disaster and climate risk management; providing analytical inputs to the internal country support strategic documents (CPD, UNDAF, recovery strategy); and program/project designing for resource mobilization.I joined the the Unit when the team was going through a critical time revitalizing UNDP's role in disaster and climate risk management policy coordination thunder the framework of Nepal Risk Reduction Consortium Platform. Within the first 12 months, I established strong rapport with the government and non-government stakeholders and moved the key multi-stakeholder policy discussions toward formulation of National Plan of Action for Safer Building Construction (seismic risk mitigation) with Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, and mainstreaming of disaster and climate risk management into sector development process with National Planning Commission. After the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, during humanitarian phase, I served as Information Management Officer and producing situation report for Early Recovery Cluster. In transition to recovery phase, I provided technical input for the Government-led Post-Disaster Needs Assessment and Post-Disaster Recovery Framework; as well as for the development of UNDP Nepal's 4-year earthquake recovery program strategy. I contributed to mobilization of over USD 10 million (USD 318,000 from Japan, EUR 1.2 million from EU, and USD 8.79 million from India) for earthquake recovery projects
Special Assistant To The Resident Coordinator
Resident Coordinator's OfficeAs special assistant, I provided facilitation for high-level communication (speeches and official communiqué) and interaction between the Resident Coordinator and the government and diplomatic corps to foster strong rapport with the stakeholders. This was to ensure effective representation of the head of the U.N. in Nepal, and promote the function of the U.N. as the advocator of human rights, peace and sustainable development.
Program Manager, Grassroots Human Security Grant Program
The mission of the Grassroots Human Security Grant Program is, as part of the Government of Japan's bi-lateral development assistance, to promote wellbeing of the most vulnerable population in South Sudan that became an independence nation in 2011. As program manager, I led expansion of the Grassroots Human Security Program in South Sudan and formulated and managed the execution of 6 projects in education, health and community infrastructure worth a total value of USD 1.5 million in collaboration with non-government and community organizations, the local governments, and the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Coordinator For Economic Cooperation
Economic and development cooperation is an integral part of the bi-lateral diplomatic relation between Japan and Zambia. As Coordinator for Economic Cooperation at the Embassy of Japan in Zambia, I acted as a focal point in the multi-donor coordination platform for external development assistance to Zambia in multiple sectors such as Education, Private Sector Development, and Environment and Natural Resources/Climate Change. I successfully advocated for the incorporation of the Government of Japan's project-based aid modality (in contrast to direct-budget support) in the Government of Zambia's Aid Policy, which was formulated in negotiation with the Government of Zambia and multiple donor/development partners. Through engagement in multi-sector development partners group, I gathered intelligence and analyzed different sector development assistance contexts. This contributed to formulation of Japan's Country Assistance Strategy to Zambia (2011-2015) which became the basis of USD 200 million development cooperation program; and successfully mobilized USD 3 million budget support to the Education sector-wide program.
Research Analyst
SIRIS provides investors the analysis of companies' performance in environmentally sustainable and socially responsible business. During the 3-month period, I appraised 80 companies performance through in-depth analysis of their financial reports, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environment reports, and generated CSR-sensitive company profiles.
Assistant Coordination Officer
As an intern, I supported drafting the U.N. Cambodia Country Report (2008) and U.N. Annual Plan (2009).
Research Intern
I carried out research and analysis on gender issues in Indonesia's West Papua Region from various perspectives including HIV/AIDS, health, education, as well as economic and social activities, and compiled the findings into a paper: ‘Indonesia, West Papua Gender Situation Analysis’. The paper contributed to IWDA’s new program partnership establishment in the region.
