As a centre attendant, my responsibilities include a diverse variety of jobs consisting of: setting up, dismantling and maintaining equipment, making sure areas and facilities are clean for service users and dealing with enquiries on reception. My predominant duty was to work as part of a team to ensure people used the poolside safely. Preservation of life, prevention of matters from worsening and promotion of healthy recovery were key to ensuring the building ran safely and efficiently. Alongside working as a contracted centre attendant for the Leicester City Council, I also worked as a swim teacher, gym instructor and personal trainer. Working as a gym instructor and personal trainer developed my knowledge of anatomy and physiology, which i utilised to support a variety of clients with their goals.

As a theatre porter, it was my main responsibility to transport patients out of recovery from their operation back to their hospital room on the ward. My other duties included: transporting patients to the theatre rooms for their operation, restocking the theatre store cupboards for the surgeons, operating department practitioners and other theatre staff, and transporting fluids to the anaesthetic rooms. This job role enabled me to have a greater understanding on the effectiveness of communication with patients, a quality I have implemented into my practice within the ambulance service on placement. Witnessing the organisation and structuring of the equipment being used within theatres showcased to me how principal it is to be well organised with the kit I was going to be using whilst out on placement.

As Boys Unit Director it was my responsibility to oversee and manage all cabins occupied by boys and their counsellors between the ages of 6-12. These duties included: planning and day-to-day administrative requirements, overseeing the pastoral welfare of staff and campers and liaising with other unit directors on important matters. As unit director i was mindful of inclusivity, and adapted interventions to suit the plethora of additional needs that were present. This role also taught me about the importance of safeguarding, keeping up to date records and documenting incidents.
