According to the World Health Organization, 285 million people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide. As a Molecular Neuropharmacologist, I investigating visual adaptation and retinal plasticity, with a focus on retinal circadian rhythms, neuromodulation (i.e., dopamine and melanopsin), and retinal activity in hopes to help mitigate this problem. Also, I investigate the link between retinal activity and neurological disorders, such as depression (e.g., Seasonal Affective Disorder) in hope of identifying a target for treatment.

Successfully characterized an intronic variant in the transforming growth factor beta receptor-I gene in clinical cancer patients; producing two published research articles. Worked with research suppliers to obtain slightly used research materials for the institute. Also, mentored summer students in laboratory techniques and concepts.
