Chad Stanton was born and raised in Orrville, Ohio having graduated from the Orrville High School and the Wayne County Schools Career Center Criminal Justice program in 1998. He attended the University Of Akron directly after High School later earning his degree in Criminal Justice. During that time he attended the Police Academy and received his OPOTA Police Officer Certification in 1999. He was hired as a Dalton Police Officer at age 20. In 2001 began his career as a Police Officer for The Ohio State University at the Wooster Campus. In the fall of 2012, Stanton began serving as acting supervisor and was promoted to Sergeant in April of 2013. His duties entail managing day to day police operations, community relations and first line supervision of the officers assigned to the Wooster Campus. He currently serves as the department’s rifle and pistol armorer and is an instructor for both weapons platforms. Sgt. Stanton has worked closely with the ATI Housing Community Council on several events and became the department’s first Crisis Intervention Officer to better assist students having issues with mental health.Stanton has found unique facets of law enforcement to explore, having completed training with the Summit and Cuyahoga Medical Examiner’s Offices. Working at other OSU locations such as the Stone Laboratory at South Bass Island, the Mansfield Campus and numerous OSU football games at Ohio Stadium since 2006. In addition to his law enforcement career Stanton has served as a Death Investigator for the Wayne County Coroner’s Office since 2016. He conducts investigation into all manner of death such as suicide, accidental, natural and homicides. Other duties include next of kin notification and facilitation of funeral services along with transportation and handling of the deceasedIn 2017 Stanton built upon recreational diving experience and became a Dive Rescue International Rescue and Recovery Diver. He now serves as a Public Safety Diver and Training Officer for the Wooster Township Fire Department. Stanton has received both a Distinguished Service Award and two Merit Awards from the Police Division along with a Mentoring Award from OSU Housing. He enjoys public speaking and has been an ALiCE (active shooter response ) instructor since 2007, having giving numerous classes over the years to students, faculty and the general public. In his non service time Stanton enjoys being an entertainer performing as a film actor, game show host and tour guide.
