About Chamara Herath
With over five years of experience in Research And Development in Solid Mechanics, I am currently seeking full-time research and development opportunities in the fields of Renewable Energy Engineering, Material Engineering, Structural Engineering, Computational Solid Mechanics, and Advanced Manufacturing. I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Clarkson University where I finished my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in July 2024. My current research focuses on metal additive manufacturing, a field that combines material science and advanced manufacturing techniques to create customized and complex parts. As part of the Solid Mechanics and Materials Lab, led by Professor Ajit Achuthan, I use Abaqus to perform thermo-mechanical simulations of various materials, such as 316L stainless steel, Ti6Al4V, and Inconel 718, and develop user-defined constitutive models to capture their behavior under different conditions. I also leverage my skills in MATLAB, Fortran, and Python, as well as software tools like Calculix, Dream3D, Paraview, and Coreform Cubit, to enhance the computational efficiency and accuracy of my models. During my internship at Additive Manufacturing Innovations LLC, I applied my expertise to address real-world engineering challenges under NASA SBIR guidance and funding using tools like NASA-developed multiscale platform GMC/FEAMAC.My passion lies in bridging the gap between advanced sciences and practical applications through engineering means. My goal is to contribute to the innovation and optimization of novel processes for use in cutting-edge industries. Alongside my technical expertise, I pride myself on my strong problem-solving skills, innovative thinking, project management and ability to work effectively in team environments. My experience has honed my ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and collaborate efficiently, making me a versatile team player who thrives in diverse and dynamic settings.
Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Research, Autocad, Training, and 28 others.
