I am deeply passionate in hypothesis-driven research and drug discovery. In my extensive 20+ year career in both academic and pharmaceutical settings, I have gained strong expertise in the establishment of research platform, team building and mentorship, collaborations, project initiation and management, critical thinking, data-driven decision making, assessment of grant and in-licensing assets, effective communication and presentation, and scientific publication. I have managed drug discovery projects targeting oncology, neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, and inflammatory diseases. I am proud to have served as the senior author on 13 peer-reviewed publications with my trainees and contributed to a total of 30+ peer-reviewed articles.

    Investigated the biochemistry of the 26S proteasome, resulting in four first author publications. 1) Discovered the distinct role of ATP binding and hydrolysis in controlling assembly, stability, and substrate degradation of the 26S proteasome (Molecular Cell). 2) Discovered that the 26S proteasome-mediated degradation can initiate from an internal unstructured region of a protein by insertion of a loop into the barrel-shaped proteolytic chamber (Science).3) Discovered that 20S proteasome-mediated partial degradation of alpha-synuclein can product aggregation-prone fragments, similar to those deposited in the brain of PD patients (JBC).
