Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and Flash are the software applications that have become the cornerstone of my career. I was employed as a member of the Imaging Department by the San Gabriel Valley News Group from 1997 until 2009 when the entire industry experienced severe economic pressures and cut dozens of positions including mine. My daily responsibilities as a Digital Imaging Technician were to download, re-touch as necessary, process and prepare for publication all photographs and graphics for each edition of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News and the Whittier Daily news. Archiving photo staff images and maintaining the photo library was also part of an ongoing task. As a part of the assignment I became familiar with Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver and Flash although those applications were not in daily use in my prior position. I used QuarkXpress to layout weather and stocks pages. For many years I worked alone in the department during the “swing” shift that ended just before the presses ran the next day’s edition and it was not extraordinary for me to process over one hundred photographs during a single shift. I am accustomed to working under strict deadline pressures. I work quickly, accurately, and without supervision. I also created a “Procedures Manual” with picture detail for individuals who may have been hired on a temporary basis filling in for the absent Digital Imagers. It was a useful tool of reference in case we were faced with work which was not a part of the daily routine. It also contained contact information for extreme case senarios.I have extensive experience in working with both Macintosh and PC platforms. Throughout my career I have been able to adapt to new hardware and software requirements and additional applications as needed.
