Early Career Professional learning the ropes of the Non-Profit world.When I first entered the workforce after college, I knew I wanted to work for and with my community. Having studied English and Creative Writing, I initially planned to do so by becoming an educator and using my passion for storytelling to inspire our future generations. I started by becoming a Substitute Teacher. During that time I gained a lot of confidence being in front of a crowded room, but I also learned that I craved collaboration with my colleagues in a way that having a classroom is not always conducive to. I realized that after several years of college classes built around discussion and collaboration that I had honed a skill I wasn't using to my fullest potential, so I decided to make a career shift.I grew up with parents who were teachers and always believed that public education was the fulcrum of a thriving community, but I know there are countless ways to serve our communities-- both local and global. Non-profit worked appealed to me because it often prioritizes communities and people, working at the heart of where the need is greatest.I'm happy to have since found an organization that shares my values of community oriented work. As Green Empowerment's Philanthropy Coordinator, I am a part of a global community working together to bring clean water and renewable energy to last mile communities around the world. It's inspiring to be part of such a dedicated team that works collaboratively to meet their goals, and I look forward to growing and learning alongside them.
