My relentless dedication to closing the opportunity gap for underserved and underrepresented Iowans has opened doors for many to obtain previously limited resources in the areas of continued education and economic advancement. I joined Des Moines Area Community College in 1990 as Executive Dean of the Urban Campus. In 2000, I assumed the position of Vice President of Community and Workforce Partnerships. During my tenure at DMACC, I was able to establish programs for adults and at-risk youth including Upward Bound, Gateway to College, Youthbuild, education/prison reentry program for ex-offenders, as well as the development of the Evelyn K. Davis Center For Working Families, an integrated service delivery model, located in Des Moines' urban core, which connects families and individuals to education, support services, career pathways, and employment. After retiring in 2013, I found that participating in the Opportunity Nation movement provides the venue for me to continue my work of closing the opportunity gap for the disenfranchised and second chance populations. I continue to be involved in several community and statewide Boards as well as other civic organizations.
