Inpatient Rehab and Outpatient Rehab Adults/Pediatric OT

- Managed a full caseload of 25-30 patients that included both outpatient and PICU/NICU (Inpatient pediatric floor) patients.- Educated staff on Childhood Trauma’s Impact on the Developing Brain.- Assisted in Feeding Clinic and Newborn Follow-Up Clinic evaluations and interventions.- Administered, scored, documented and interpreted neurodevelopment assessments.

- Managed a full case-load of 8-10 patients in the ICU, Stroke Unit, Heart and Vascular, and Orthopedic Floors.- Performed the evaluation process with supervising OTR/L; facilitated occupation-based treatment interventions based upon evaluations and re-evaluations.- Educated patients and families on orthopedic/surgical precautions, assistive devices, and DME.- Collaborated and co-treated with Daily collaboration with OT, OTAs, PT, SLP on patient progress, goals, and plan of care, on a daily basis.- Created a splint cart system for the Rehab Department as well as fabricated splints for patients.

Assisted CHHS students in retrieving and providing resources that are catered to specific programs. Worked with WMU faculty members to reserve textbooks, toolkits, assessments, and test forms for their students. Provided quality customer service through greeting and maintaining a clean, safe, and friendly environment.

The Children’s Trauma Assessment Center, or CTAC, is part of the Unified Clinics at Western Michigan University. CTAC provides comprehensive neurodevelopmental trauma assessments for children who have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences. As an OT intern, my skills and responsibilities are listed below.* Conducted ethnographic interviews with child’s caregivers and welfare workers to obtain the child’s history prior to assessments. * Write and present reports on assessments as well as a summary report on child's history. * Administered neurodevelopment tools and demonstrated ability to correctly score and administer all assessments.* Interpreted neurodevelopment assessments in assessment reports.* Ability to explain the effects of maltreatment/trauma and prenatal alcohol exposure (FASD) on brain-behavior correlations and multiple areas of the child’s functioning, such as behavioral and emotional regulation and sensory processing.

"The Marion R. Spear Occupational Therapy Clinic is a service component of the Western Michigan University Department of Occupational Therapy. The Clinics are a student-administered service provided under the direct supervision of licensed occupational therapy faculty. The clinic is designed to provide consultation, evaluation, and individual treatment." As an OT intern for the clinic, I had the opportunity to evaluate and treat four clients who suffered from cerebral vascular accidents (Stroke). The responsibilities I had as a student therapist are listed below.* Evaluated and administered assessments on clients who suffered from cerebral vascular accidents.* Developed and implemented occupation-based treatment plans while evaluating the client’s progress towards their plan.* Collaborated and emphasized on building rapport with each client to address their needs.* Documented sessions appropriately through the clinic’s Point and Click system.

Brain Balance is a program that assists children with developmental deficits. The program creates an individualized plan that includes sensory motor work, eye tracking, core exercises, academic skill training, healthy nutrition, and confidence building to aid the child’s developmental deficits. The Assistant Director responsibilities that I had but were not limited to include:* Working with children who presented with Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Processing Disorders, Behavioral Issues, Learning Disorders, and children who may not have a medical diagnosis but are struggling academically, behaviorally, or socially.* Assisted in the development of individualized program plans for each child that included: sensory motor work and stimulation, eye tracking, core exercises, academic skill training, healthy nutrition and home exercises that assisted in a child’s developmental deficits.* Administration responsibilities: scheduled appointments for the Center Director, answered phone calls and emails, scored and entered assessments, prepared paperwork for parent meetings and conferences, organized and filed children’s files, scheduled work schedules, organized staff meetings, and assisted with advertising.* Accounting responsibilities: tuition and assessment fee collections, organized inquiries, recorded daily revenue and end of month totals through Excel spreadsheets and end of the month reports

- Created a safe and an all-inclusive community through planned, organized, and hosted programs for residence in Davis Hall. - Connected residents to other campus opportunities to promote a positive WMU experience. - Helped provide resources to residents such as the counseling center, Academic Resource Center, and community mental health organizations.- Worked with 23 staff members to ensure that there are no facility issues and shared responsibilities of being the primary responder to emergencies within Davis hall. - Administrative tasks—weekly reports and other department paperwork, administer surveys and assisting with check-ins and check-outs of residents.

Guided prospective students as well as fellow students in navigating Western Michigan University (WMU). Promoted WMU in an energetic way to prospective students and their families and showing Bronco Pride. Gained knowledge of a plethora of registered student organizations and University facts. Maintained a good working relationsip with peers.
