His research expertise covers broad areas of geospatial information sciences and systems, including mapping, navigation and georeferencing; photogrammetry and computer vision; multi-sensor geospatial data acquisition systems, such as GNSS/IMU and other sensor integration for navigation in GNSS-challenged environments; sensors and algorithms for indoor and personal navigation; image-based navigation using AI methods; and UAS and mobile mapping technology for outdoor/indoor applications.Dr. Toth is a Fellow of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), a Fellow of the Institute of Navigation (ION), a Fellow of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), holds an Honorary Doctorate of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and the recipient of the ASPRS Lifetime Achievement Award (formerly Honorary Fellow), the 2005 and 2015 United States Geospatial Information Foundation (USGIF) Academic Research Award, ION Captain P.V.H. Weems Award, ISPRS Schwidefsky Medal, OSU College of Engineering Lumley Research Award, ASPRS Photogrammetric Award (Fairchild), and numerous best paper awards. He has held many senior leadership positions in national and international societies, and was Vice-President of ISPRS (2016-2022), President of ASPRS (2015-2017), President of ISPRS Technical Commission I (2012-2016), and currently chairs the International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC) of ISPRS.
