CurrentI worked on two separate projects related to sediment transport in Caspar Creek Experimental Forest. For one study we measure runoff and sediment export from roads with varying characteristics using silt fences. We aim to understand what drives variation in runoff and sediment export from roads. The other study uses a hydrophone to monitor bedload transport rates in real-time. We developed a rating curve between manual bedload measurements and the hydrophone output to predict bedload transport at one-minute intervals. Time-lapse cameras were directed at log jams upstream of the hydrophone so that we could monitor the effect of upstream log jam movements on downstream bedload transport rates.
