- Write scaffolded questions for custom PhET-iO simulations aligned to NGSS - Define PhET-iO simulation starting states and elements using HTML and Javascript to create custom simulations that guide student learning goals- Create content for teachers to guide students in science investigations, including Teacher Guides, Answer Keys, and other PDFs

GENERAL CURRICULUM DESIGN- Collaborated with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh to plan, implement, and assess a project-based unit on the solar system for 8th grade students that incorporated a maker space and Sphero robots.- Co-designed and developed justice-focused computational thinking curricular materials for middle school ELA, focused on increasing computational identity, CS knowledge, and digital empowerment among students historically underrepresented.ASSESSMENT- Wrote two authentic, culturally-relevant performance assessments in collaboration with a recording studio, which were used to evaluate 8th grade students in scientific competencies, resulting in recordings airing on NPR’s Science Friday about sleep.STEM DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP- Formed a VEX IQ robotics after school club that won the Western Pennsylvania State title in its rookie season and attended VEX Worlds in Dallas, TX in May, 2022.- Developed and implemented a 4-week robotics summer camp that asked students to code a “warehouse” robot and drone to deliver a package to a customer. - Designed a data science investigation around lead pipes, a critical infrastructure issue in Pittsburgh, that asked students to collect, analyze, and present data about their own homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. - Implemented CSinPA Build | Fly | Code drone curricula after 40 hours of professional development, improving girls’ interest in computer science by 25% from pre/post interviews.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP- Led a remote workshop with FOSS (Full Option Science System) development staff, demonstrating how LMS (Canvas, Google Classroom) and ed tech tools (Pear Deck) integrate in remote science teaching.- Advocated for and participated in selecting new science curricula for grades K-8. Since the beginning of its first year of implementation (2021-22 school year), 8th grade students increased standards mastery by 88%.

- Instructed 19 secondary math and science preservice teachers (MAT candidates) on lesson planning, assessment, and technology integration centered around NGSS and Common Core.- Adapted syllabus and major assignments to align with new course objectives.- Supported students in evaluating cognitive demand using the Task Analysis Guide in Science.- Modeled engaging teaching strategies for preservice teachers, including small group discussion around assessment and homework situations, hands-on demonstrations, and technology integration in the classroom. - Provided timely feedback for lesson planning documents, assessments, and group work tasks.- Received high marks in course evaluations for facilitating discussion (4.43/5.00), providing opportunities for collaboration (4.59/5.00), and providing timely feedback (4.88/5.0).

- Designed a model of a human small intestine to study how viruses infect and cross this barrier in the body.- Trained 2 graduate students in both general lab techniques and in using the model of the small intestine.- Collected, analyzed, and presented data at a professional conference (American Society of Virology 2018) and submitted to refereed journals (1 first author and 2 middle author publications).- Performed assays and analyzed results to facilitate other lab members’ research.

- Reviewed literature on active, folded peptides modified with large fluorescent moieties- Programmed a solid phase peptide synthesizer to yield custom 36 amino acid peptides later modified with fluorophores designed to interrogate the structure and function of potassium voltage-gated (Kv) ion channels - Analyzed mass spectrometry and HPLC data to determine identity, yield, and purity of peptides - Communicated results and progress in group meeting, with my postdoctoral mentor, and to Dr. Kenton Swartz - Presented work at Summer Poster Day

Along with my CS collaborator, I designed an inexpensive and scalable chemical inventory system for use in Eastern Mennonite University's new science facility.

I supported students as they transitioned to the college environment and encouraged them to explore college-wide activities throughout their first year. Mainly, I stayed in touch with my mentees to offer direction and support.
