I am a PhD level research scientist with more than 17yrs of academic and industrial experience tackling difficult protein expression and characterization projects. This includes designing/altering genes, gene cloning, protein expression, protein purification, protein refolding, protease use/optimization, and protein stabilization. I characterize the proteins/protein complexes using techniques that include but are not limited to: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), circular dichroism, SDS-Page (including cross-linking), dynamic light scattering, mass spectrometry, and size exclusion chromatography. I developed expertise in the handling and use of detergents and other membrane mimetics. I also have experience in determining protein-protein interactions, protein-small molecule interactions, assigning the NMR resonances of proteins, determining NMR protein structures, determining the transmembrane regions of membrane proteins, and chemically labeling purified proteins. I have experience working both on my own or in large collaborations with multiply different labs. I am also usually working on multiple projects at one time.I have overseen the research of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students and regularly assist others to solve problems they encounter in their work.
