Collaborate with Bren School’s master thesis group to advance work on a spatial analysis of four northern California counties for suitable Grey Wolf habitat and human land use in order to predict potential conflict hot spots. Continue to design a survey of livestock/wildlife coexistence management techniques with the goal of developing a community outreach strategy to guide Defenders of Wildlife’s engagement of livestock producers within identified potential conflict zones. Spatially analyze documented Bureau of Land Management western Mojave planning area off-road vehicle (ORV) violations in order to accurately estimate the magnitude of ORV use violations throughout the entire planning area, distinguish zones of high non-compliance, and determine the magnitude of ORV use violations occurring in designated Critical Habitat for the desert tortoise. Provided a detailed analysis on the effects of nutrient pollution (specifically in regards to Microcystin) on the federally listed California sea otter along the central coast. Delivered a synthesis of past, current, and future efforts (made by state & federal government, water boards, non-government organizations, non-profits, etc.) to regulate/reduce harmful algal blooms within central California watersheds. Produced an assessment of current gaps in addressing this environmental concern and provided recommendations as to how Defenders of Wildlife may be most instrumental.
