After many years of hard work in the construction industry, in 2014, I made a career pivot and took a production job for a medical equipment manufacturer in the hopes of gaining skills in a more stable work environment while working my way up within the company. Now, I find myself as an EPA Certified Refrigeration Technician lII in the company’s engineering department, assisting in designing, prototyping, testing, and releasing incredible medical equipment for health care professionals. Little did I know in 2014, when I was taking an assembly position, that I would now have earned an opportunity to be part of a team of incredible engineers designing energy-efficient, environmentally friendly world-class medical refrigerators, freezers, and platelet incubators, all while working towards a degree in engineering.As much as I enjoy working in engineering, I have to say that introducing our production staff to our new, less labor-intensive products and training employees in various skill-based jobs is almost as rewarding. In my career journey, I know I have had many people help me along the way, and it is incredible to be in a position to be able to help others as they gain new skills to grow in their career journey, just as I have and continue to. In July 2022, I earned my associate's degree in Engineering Technology from Ivy Tech but have also earned a technical certificate in Electronics and Computer Sciences from Ivy Tech, an EPA Section 608 Universal Certification, an RSES Hydrocarbon Refrigerants Certification, an Ivy Tech Oxy-Fuel Brazing Certification, an Autodesk Inventor Essentials Certificate, and an OSHA 10-Hour Hazard Awareness Training Certification. In January of 2023, I started pursuing my bachelor's degree from Purdue University.
