I most recently held the position of Vice President of Contract Compliance (2013-2014) for The GEO Group, Inc., an international private corrections company. I lead the development and continuous implementation of compliance measurements and internal control programs for the company. Director Law Enforcement And Detention Center
I was the Director of the Law Enforcement Detention Center for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (2011-2013) and maintained the uniform rank of Major. In this position I was responsible for the Sheriff’s detention operations, prisoner transportation to and from Court and within the State of North Carolina, and pre-trial monitoring in the Community of Winston-Salem, NC. The Detention Center’s bed capacity is 1,016 bed confining both male and female prisoners. The operating budget was 18 million annually and the staffing plan included both Detention Officers and Sworn Deputies. The Sheriff outsourced detention services in food, medical, commissary, and telephone operations deliveries to which, under the direction of the Sheriff, I developed the technical specifications for these services and subsequently awarded contracts to the successful bidder. I demonstrated my capability to exercise the requisite independent judgment and discretion to successfully fulfill the Sheriff’s performance outcomes, with minimal oversight and direction from my supervisors. I demonstrated collaborative problem solving skills with an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to work with departments within the County, State and Federal Court system.
Assistant Warden
With Corrections Corporation of America (2008-2011) a domestic private corrections company in Eden, Texas I was an Assistant Warden. The prison facility was a 1,554 bed Federal contract from the Federal Bureau of Prisons confining criminal aliens targeted for deportation by Homeland Security. I served on the executive staff in the position of Assistant Warden overseeing security, gang intelligence, special operations response team, custody operations. I was responsible for the security of correctional facilities as well as its staff and prisoners operating a professional understanding of how all department functions work together to their best effort. Under the warden’s direction, I was tasked to reduce prisoner disruptions, violence and nonconformance. I was successful in developing and implementing new approaches to departmental administration, plan and specific departmental activities. I reviewed and evaluated the work of personnel to ensure conformance with general guidelines, methods, techniques, policies, and laws, and developed and implemented training to reinforce policy, rules, and to ensure lawful and contractual compliance. I coordinated service deliveries that anticipated future needs by organizing work operations and establishing timelines. I provided executive oversight of the operational budget, selected and assigned staff, assured equal employment opportunities in hiring, promotion, and other employment practices, identified staff development needs and assured that training was appropriately delivered. I assured that proper labor relations and conditions of employment were maintained. I prepared statements, reports, press releases, and speeches on program and policy issues, and presented executive briefings before the company’s steering committees and the client.
