Climate Change And Forced Migration - Community ResearcherBanaban Human Rights Defenders Network Apr 2023 - Jun 2023Rabi Island, Fiji2 months living and working alongside the Banaban community on Rabi, a remote island in Fiji whose population were forcibly relocated from Banaba due to colonial phosphate mining. Conducted participatory and community-centred research alongside the BHRDN. Explored experiences of forced relocation, local climate change impacts, and infrastructural development plans. Sensitively engaged in ‘storysharing’ and recorded stories of climate impacts for a new ‘Climate Mobility Hub’ at the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law in Sydney.

Designed and independently completed a project on climate-related displacement policy. Included research of emerging trends and policy developments, and stakeholder engagement with academics, politicians, faith leaders, and affected communities. Presented research findings in both presentations and a report. Represented JRS Australia at the conference, 'To Hell with Drowning' at the Australian National University, Canberra. -

Roles included working in the Shelter team, Information Help Desk, Education Outreach, and the Women’s Engagement Centre. In the Shelter department, work ranged from allocating new arrivals into certain areas of camp, preparing shelters, and organising food distributions. Also instrumental in setting up the Women's Engagement space, which included the vision, design and execution of transforming one area of camp into a space for creativity and respite. Organised and promoted a trial of adapted cycles in the local Fife community. Successfully implemented the pilot after writing grant applications and advertising the scheme. Authored a report on the findings, with a series of 'best-practice' recommendations and next steps, and presented these to Transition and the University's Environment Team. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of St Andrews Jan 2020 - Sep 2021I was selected as a Research Assistant to a Geography lecturer at the University of St Andrews. I first completed a literature review on participatory mapping with indigenous communities, particularly in the Peruvian Amazon. I presented my findings to an interdisciplinary research team at the University. I was then invited to return for a second internship, this time on 'Ecology as if People Matter', on how ecological research projects can best 'give back' to the communities they work with. -

A collaborative art exhibition planned for April 2020, aiming to generate awareness by bringing art into the medical domain, was sadly postponed due to COVID-19.
