I lead our newsroom’s digital efforts and the teams most responsible for making them happen: Audience, Digital Design, Graphics, Data, Video/Audio and Tools & Technology. Much of my work has focused on leading inclusive digital and cultural transformation initiatives, such as: implementing our first digital-first CMS; leading our development of corresponding digital-first workflows; and building a content strategy focused on the needs of our audience and the power of digital story forms. I'm also proud to have helped craft and model new systems for equitable hiring and career development.

I co-founded this consultancy, which provides web development, technical services and strategic consulting to media clients. We have worked on dozens of projects for companies in the United States and Europe, but we are best known for helping build and launch the Texas Tribune.

I worked with faculty to create a course in advanced data journalism, which I taught remotely.

I led the Interactive News desk, a team of 20 developer/journalists responsible for creating new story forms, building tools and products, and working with reporters and editors to support newsgathering and digital storytelling. Highlights include leading the team’s engineering work around major events, including the Olympics and live results for the 2016 elections. We also pioneered story forms such as journalist-driven newsletters, live briefings, live chats and others that have since become ubiquitous.

I led the Center’s data journalism and website engineering teams during a period of rapid expansion. Prior to that I worked as a reporter, where, among other things, I uncovered a money laundering scheme that led to one of the largest campaign finance fines in state history. I also built interactive projects, including an iPhone app that helped Californians assess seismic safety in public schools.

I worked as an investigative and data reporter. Projects included a series that identified holes in state air pollution monitoring systems, which won two of the state's highest journalism awards in 2010.

Houston, Texas Area

I worked as a reporter and data specialist on the investigative desk, where I focused primarily on local and state government. I also contributed to staff coverage of Hurricane Ike.
