Assistant Vice President For Enrollment
University of the Cumberlands has positioned itself as one of the leading private institutions in the state of Kentucky by providing high-quality education at an affordable price. Over recent years, the institution has experienced rapid total enrollment across all campuses. In 2018, the University introduced the Cumberlands Commitment, a 57% reduction in tuition for students pursuing education on main campus. This has allowed significant opportunity to continue to provide quality education to students within the greater Appalachian region. In my current role, I lead a team of admissions, recruitment, and operations professionals who are responsible for data processing, freshman and transfer recruitment, new students financial aid packaging, and admissions decisions. In addition, I work closely with the offices of financial aid, students services, and business affairs to determine realistic revenue goals through enrollment and retention. Director Of Undergraduate Enrollment
Director, Admissions
As director of admissions, I led all admissions and recruitment activities for undergraduate students and professional Doctor of Pharmacy students. The admissions team of eleven included two assistant directors, two coordinators, one specialist, and six admissions officers. While at STLCOP, I had the opportunity to work closely with faculty at the undergraduate and doctoral level as we continuously crafted our admissions processes, standards, and objectives. I worked to implement a stronger presence of admissions and recruitment best practices including a more competitive aid leveraging strategy, strategic application and decision processes, and a deeper holistic applicant review. Under the unit's structure, I had the opportunity to work on a leadership team that included the College's Registrar, Director of Financial Aid, and Director of Marketing and Communications. While having had a working knowledge of these areas previously, this time allowed me to gain significant experience in these areas and working with these departments.
Director Of Enrollment Management
Responsibilities included leading and supervising a recruitment team of five Admissions Counselors and one Campus Visit and Event Coordinator. I was responsible for hiring, training, and staffing. I provided guidance to the team regarding recruitment territory management and structure of recruitment schedule. I successfully built the foundation to the recruitment strategy during year one, and continued to build upon that framework in year two. Our recruitment team increased efforts by 37% over the first two years. As a result, we saw increased applications by almost 13% and acceptances by over 9%. In addition to providing leadership to our recruitment teams, I also worked with our vice president for enrollment management to address retention, manage recruitment budget, and analyze enrollment data.
Associate Director Of Admissions
As the Associate Director of Admissions, I was charged with leading a recruitment team of five Admissions Counselors with the goal of increasing first-time freshman enrollment. We developed a new recruitment strategy, overall team development, and moved toward the prospective student. A few notable changes and accomplishments: - Implementation of the Hawk Experience on Wednesday to showcase our campus including a tour, class, chapel service, and lunch followed by an information session. - Revamped tour routes, tour times, and tour ambassador mentalities. - Recruitment team completed 280 high school private visits and approximately 250 college fair style recruitment events during the '13-'14 recruitment year. - Increase in scholarship awards for incoming freshman and transfer students. - Hired three new Admissions Counselors in response to personnel changes beginning in January 2014- Trained two different recruitment teams during this time including recruitment travel, professionalism, communication, time management, student information system, query reports, and sales.
Assistant Director Of Undergraduate Admissions
During my tenure as the Assistant Director of Admissions the institution experienced a steady climb in first time freshmen interest. Applications and acceptances significantly increased from year one to year two with an anticipated increase in enrolled first time freshmen for the 2013-2014 academic year. With an institution goal of increasing current campus enrollment by approximately 500 students over five years, strong emphasis was put on the ability of the Admissions Office to assist in this growth. In this position I used knowledge from previous experience at a small private institution to position us to be competitive with the institution's enrollment goals. In year one, our recruitment staff produced over 300 private visits to Alabama high schools across the state. In year two, we greatly exceeded recruitment efforts producing a 10% increase. In addition, our application and acceptance increased steadily. Aside from recruitment, my responsibilities included managing a six vehicle travel fleet, approving leave requests, conducting employment searches and interviews, and assisting with the execution of large recruitment events.
