Senior Research Engineer

National Institute For Aviation Research (Niar) At Wichita State University

1. Provided on-site structural analysis support to Airbus America Engineering (AAE) Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Group in Wichita.a. Produced detailed finite element (FE) models and conducted FE analysis for A380 parts using Patran and Nastranb. Performed FE model data check per AAE specificationsc. Compiled technical reports upon task completion2. Simulate and Predict Failure Strengths and Allowables Development Process of Composites Phases I & IIa. Used micromechanical equations to reverse engineer constituent properties for composite materialsb. Developed a multi-scale analysis methodology and provided guidance for generating mechanical properties for composite materials using micromechanical material modelers such as Helius and Digimat. Validated the methodology and benchmarked analysis modelsc. Demonstrated the ability of FE models to predict most mechanical properties (within 10% of tested properties)d. Investigated variability in composite materials due to manufacturing and incorporated the variability into virtual simulationse. Used optimization tool along with micromechanical material modelers and UMAT user subroutine in finite element analysis to virtually generate A and B-Basis allowables according to CMH-17 Handbook for composite materials used in general aviation. Virtually generated material allowables were comparable to values obtained from NCAMP multi-batch test dataf. Developed VBA codes to create FE modelsg. Presented simulation results to aerospace customersh. Wrote technical report following program completion3. Perform stress analysis on aircraft components4. Analyzed and documented mechanical test results for research programs and various composite material certification programs.5. Monitored the quality, accuracy, and timely deliverance of all mechanical test results6. Worked collaboratively with a team of test engineers, research staff, and program managers7. Provided training and supervision for a team of test engineers

Research Engineer

Graduate Research Assistant

1. Supported FAA sponsored program Acoustic Material Database Phases I and II• Determined the absorption coefficients, reflection coefficients, and transmission loss of various foams and fibers using the Brüel & Kjær Impedance Tube Method. • Compiled a database of the measured acoustic properties for general aviation use. Wrote report on findings and presented to aerospace customers.• Determined the physical properties of various foams and fibers using FOAM-X based on the measured acoustic properties, and used the calculated physical properties as input for an AutoSEA2 model to predict the acoustic properties of various foams and fibers. Wrote report on findings and presented to aerospace customers.• Conducted parametric studies to determine the effects of combined lay-ups on acoustic properties for materials of interest.
