This position involved the day-to-day operation of a variety of analytical equipment, including: GC-MS - Agilent 5975C, Agilent 8890 GC with 5977B MS, Perkin Elmer Clarus 500 GCHPLC - Agilent Infinity I and IIFT-IR - Perkin Elmer FrontierI have gained first-hand experience with troubleshooting and repairing this equipment, as well as improving my general laboratory practice whilst making-up mobile phases, and weighing out analytical standards. Throughout this role I have been able to hone and build upon the knowledge which I gained from my First Class Bsc in Analytical Chemistry and Forensic Science.Attention to detail and organisational skills are traits which I've improved working here, due to the critical need for ensuring item continuity documents are kept up-to-date, and that all results processed had to meet the standard to be presented in criminal courts.

This role required me to independently operate and maintain a store across long-hour shifts.A typical day would involve: selling to customers, restocking shelves, handling any customer problems, and locking up the store before the next day.Time management and organisational skills were key throughout this role, as collecting additional stock from the warehouse required the store to be locked up between trips, temporarily halting access for customers. I was able to develop an efficient method to quickly source new stock during times which I identified as being quieter, which reduced downtime for customers and resulted in fewer complaints.Additionally, a keen eye for detail and situational awareness was needed, to constantly observe the sales floor in the case of theft. This was particularly critical when matters needed to be dealt with in the store's office, as this was separated from the sales floor, and so no staff would be present during that timeframe. This problem was tackled by use of the store's CCTV system, and rapid response should issues or customer queries occurred.

The production of sales material including promotional posters had also been undertaken during this position.Working here has greatly improved my ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner with other team members and customers and work with point of sale (POS) systems; This experience has also improved my ability to independently evaluate options when making decisions in order to achieve the best outcome.
