I had no programming experience before and I was able to build a full-stack web app on my own at the end of it, including using JavaScript, React.js, Redux-thunk, database (SQL & NoSQL), authentication & JWT. I also enjoyed writing tests for both frontend and backend with Jest and Nock.The final project that I participated in as the product owner. The responsibility involved final decision making for MVP, addon features, and backlog management. We applied the AGILE framework to our workflow to assure each team member maintained a good balance between work and personal life.The app aims at helping users to build healthy daily habits in a fun and interactive way, which utilised timeStamp for basic habits function, GIPHY API for achievement recognition feature, and Nivo for user’s habits behaviour statistic analysis. We have successfully deployed the app to Heroku by implementing Mongo DB to convert our database from SQL to NoSQL. The app UI was built using Chakra for a professional-looking and minimalist style. To ensure good code quality and stable functions, we applied lint tests for Github pull requests and our test coverage was up to 62%. The above are all achieved in one week. A common retrospective the team had is that we want to improve on our test coverage because it is critical for building a reliable and stable app. I've learned tech skills including and not limited to building SQL and NoSQL databases, authentication and JWT, testing, Javascript and React as main languages for building backend and frontend. I was the product owner for the final group project and I was responsible for taking the lead in product-related decision making and work allocation so as to ensure a functioning and stable app built as planned within seven days.I've mostly worked in pairs or as a team for group projects following the AGILE framework. The experience has enhanced my teamwork skills such as empathy, effective communication and providing and accepting growth feedback.
