Apart from my role at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) Auckland, I have a contractual role teaching sustainable business at AUT. Inspired by Paul Hawken's The Ecology of Commerce—A Declaration of Sustainability, I stand by his statement that many companies today no longer accept the maxim that the business of business is business. While sustainability is the end goal, companies are now drawing up new ways of conducting corporate life that integrate social, ethical, and environmental principles. Sharing experiences and learning with students, we unpack the many sobering facts of what we are facing with climate change; there are so many upsides to this passion job, like discussing the many companies we can lean in and learn from as they adopt the best environmental practices. A tiny fraction of my contribution to teaching is to help students understand that we all have a part in the big puzzle.
