When I graduated high school in 2016, I continued my education at Sauk Valley Community College and was able to work for the TRIO group as a one on one tutor. As a tutor, I made sure my students got individualized attention such as if a student prefers hands on work to working out problems. The students I taught were able to learn study skills, and be able to ask questions they did not understand in class or did not want to ask in class. My fellow tutors often came to me asking for advice on how to handle a subject or of a way to better get an idea across to a student. When I graduated from Sauk, I transferred to Iowa State University I took a position at ETG (Electronics Technical Group), I provide students with parts they request for replacements from their lab kits or to complete projects for their classes. I, also, get to work on increasing my knowledge in my field of computer engineering with projects that occasionally come to me to further help other students increase their knowledge in labs by repairing equipment and/or designing new equipment to be used in the labs in the most efficient manner.With a semester left in my undergraduate program, I took the opportunity to work on gaining my Master’s degree the following year. In this time, I under took helping other students through their first embedded systems course required for each computer engineer undergrad. I helped guide students as a graduate teaching assistant for the next year to help students understand why knowing embedded systems is needed in their degree even if they don’t specialize in it. After that I was provided an opportunity to work on a project for Wahl Clipper as an intern to help gather information from devices in the field. This project required converting code from a language in C to Arduino and be able to have each device be able to be connected by a test user to provide real time data to assess the performance of prototype clippers. Now I have finished my Master’s program and have a position at Caterpillar as an Agency worker. I’m casually looking for employment near my hometown that is majority remote work or within an 1hr radius in order to be closer to my family and help grow our family business.
