As a professional biologist, educator, backyard nature expert, long-time birder, accomplished traveler, former wholesale sales manager and long-time sport optics fan, I'm now working two part-time dream jobs. I get to take people out and show them birds, habitat and other critters with Reefs to Rockies LLC, a woman-owned Tour company based in Boulder County, Colorado. I'm also contracting with my former employer, Opticron optics, to attend birding festivals and optics sales, as well as handle incoming customer service calls and emails from Opticron dealers and end-users in North America. My background includes extensive experience in bird feeding products and optics sales; bird tour-leading; trade show exhibiting; research project management, planning and logistics; local and federal land management; biological research; GIS; formal and informal science and environmental education; wholesale, retail and contract sales; and non-profit fundraising, I strive to make a difference and be proud of my contributions, all while taking advantage of "teachable moments" as they present themselves.Specialties: The use of Social Media to support a cause or product, Nonprofit program management, Research project management, Travel planning and logistics, Document editing and formatting, Sport optics sales, Bird Feeder, Bath, Nestbox, and Accessory expertise, and Attracting wildlife to backyards (see the links below.) Outside of work I spend time traveling, birding, skiing, tossing balls to Maybelle - my labrador/golden retriever mix, craft beer and wine tasting, homebrewing, and attending music festivals. I enjoying binging movies and shows on various streaming platforms as well.

General ManagerFront Range Birding Company Aug 2014 - Aug 2020Greater Denver AreaThe Front Range Birding Company is the largest independent bird feeding and birding store in the Greater Denver Metro area. Former owner, Tom Bush, was a fixture in birding circles in Littleton and the surrounding area but as a retired pilot for United with home health duties, he needed someone to step in and turn sagging sales around. With new displays, strong new additions to the feeder, bath, and nestbox inventory, and a big kick in optics sales with inventory from Kowa, Swarovski, Leica, Zeiss, Vortex, and Opticron, we experienced unprecedented success, especially with our push to take the optics show on the road to regional birding festivals. It was a pleasure working for and with Tom and the rest of his staff, especially as they expanded from monthly free bird walks into national birding tours in cooperation with Reefs to Rockies. We opened a new location in Boulder, CO in late 2018 and it was profitable in its 1st year. Forced shutdown due to the pandemic led us to pivot to online sales with drop-ships from 2 distributors. We rapidly built out a full webstore that kept us afloat in March and April of 2020. They eventually scaled back online offerings to better reflect their in-store stock after opening in late April for curbside pickup-only, followed by in-store shopping, with restrictions, after early May 2020. Continued in-store restrictions and the hospitalization and eventual death of my father led me to leave the store in late Aug of 2020. I still work with the new owners to exhibit and sell optics at regional birding festivals.

PresidentNature Optics Llc May 2012 - Jan 2017Arvada, Colorado, United StatesI was excited to expand the role of Nature Optics into the birding festival marketplace. By bringing together products useful to birders, hunters, wildlife observers and outdoorspersons from companies like Opticron, Novagrade, Stedi-stock, Rick Young Outdoors, Birder Chicks and others, Nature Optics had what you needed to enhance your viewing, digiscoping and phonescoping photography, and overall experience out of doors. I might have been able to make a go of it with deeper pockets and a fuller schedule of events but after a year, travel (and life) expenses vs. profit forced me to pull out of the business.

Pro Staff And Festival ContractorOpticron Dec 2015 - Dec 2016Huntersville, NcI represented Opticron at numerous birding festivals primarily in the central and western US during 2016 in conjunction with Nature Optics, LLC. I exhibited and sold Opticron optics, led birding festival field trips and gave "Optics 101" talks to help consumers choose the best birding optics for them as well. This contract was then picked up by Front Range Birding Company, with me still as the primary, into 2020. -
Pro Staff And Festival ContractorNovagrade Aug 2014 - Nov 2016Portland, Oregon AreaI was responsible for spreading the word about Novagrade's incredible compression-fit universal digiscoping adapters for DSLRs, smartphones, and tablets. Through connections with retail contacts and end users at some of the largest birding festivals in the country, I strived to show how easy it is to take great photographs and video through your spotting scope or binocular (OR MICROSCOPE) and persuade folks to take one home! I also contributed to Novagrade's social media outlets. With their new small diameter eyepiece collet set, these adapters can now work with smaller binoculars, telescopes, and microscopes. Smartphones in the classroom projecting microscope images to a smart TV is a great way to save instruction time and get students more interested in the subject matter. I wholly support this great product and great company. -
Tour Sales And Copy EditorPartnership For International Birding Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Greater Denver AreaI was thoroughly excited to be working with this well-respected company offering both domestic and international birding tours. PIB partners with some of the best guides and tour companies around the globe to offer excellent birding adventures at excellent prices. I started by editing tour descriptions and other PIB materials and convincing folks to come along on one of PIB's tours but left when the position changed to straight commission.

Us Sales ManagerOpticron Mar 2012 - Feb 2014Greater Denver AreaMy role involved introducing Opticron's fine products to a new audience in the United States. I exhibited binoculars, monoculars, spotting scopes and accessories to the general public, primarily at birding festivals and the like, and also searched for retailers to stock and sell Opticron products through brick-and-mortar and online stores.I was also responsible for contributing to Opticron's social media outlets and promoting the brand wherever possible. As someone who could not sell something I didn't believe in, I am genuinely impressed with the range, quality, price, and performance of Opticron's optics. 46 years (now 54) in the industry in Britain has fine-tuned their offerings making them a fantastic value for the birder, hunter, general nature enthusiast, and sports and performance art aficionado. The company maxim "Smaller, Lighter, Brighter, Sharper" sure holds true in my eyes. It was a pleasure to work for such a fine company. -
