• The Baker Act Coordinator (BAC), is a member of the inpatient leadership and management team. The duties and responsibilities that include (but are not limited to) leadership and supervisory meetings, policy and procedures revisions; clinical advocacy for clients in the hospital; representing the best interest of the clients in court, for mental health proceedings (civilly and forensically); coordinating care between the inpatient hospital, community, jail and court; maintaining legal documents and file them in a timely manner (according to the F.S. 394); perform transfer evaluations for clients being involuntarily committed to a state mental health treatment facility (civilly and forensically); attend mental health court and baker act court proceedings; the BAC may also be asked to testify during court proceedings, based on the transfer evaluation. BAC also serves as a member of the mental health court staff for Leon, Gadsden and Liberty counties. Additionally, as the BAC data collection is also important to this position and the care of current and future clients, being served in the community.

The duties include case management of forensic clients recently discharged from jail or prison, and clients being released from a forensic unit at a state mental health treatment facility. Duties further include attending mental health court proceedings, coordinating care for clients in the community; conducting assessments (needs assessments, comprehensive assessments, etc.); reporting monthly updates to probation officers, pre-trial release officers, state hospital staff, and the managing entity.

Duties include assisting clients with activities of daily living, maintaining client safety, documenting changes and progress of behavior, assisting with meals, assessing vitals daily.
