Designed and carried out my own research project into the effects of deforestation in the state of Mato Grosso, Southwest Brazil. The project was part of a larger project funded by the University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) into the effects of rainforest deforestation.

As a volunteer I worked as part of a team assisting in the maintenance and conservation of many natural habitats and National Trust sites. This took place during my year in industry as part of my degree. Activities included woodland work and species managment and surveying.

I participated in a range of projects with local communities, including creating nature gardens for primary schools, maintaining natural environments in and around the local area, and educating others about the importance of conservation activities. This also took place during my year in industry.
